Managing Data
The Local Backtester uses locally stored historical candle data. You need to download data before running backtests.
Downloading Data
- Navigate to the Data tab
- Select an exchange (Blofin, Bybit, Bitget, Bitunix, or Hyperliquid)
- Select a symbol using that exchange's native format (e.g.,
BTCUSDTon Bybit orBTC-USDTon Blofin) - Select a bar size (1m, 5m, 15m, 30m, 1h, 4h, 1d)
- Choose the number of days to download (up to 365)
- Click Download
The backtester fetches candles directly from the exchange's public API and stores them locally.
Supported Exchanges
| Exchange | Futures Data |
|---|---|
| Blofin | Yes |
| Bybit | Yes |
| Bitget | Yes |
| Bitunix | Yes |
| Hyperliquid | Yes |
Data Storage
Downloaded data is stored in the /app/data directory inside the container. If you mounted a volume (as recommended in the installation guide), this maps to your local data/ folder, so data persists across container restarts.
Viewing Your Data
The Data tab shows all locally available datasets with:
- Exchange and symbol
- Bar size
- Number of candles
- Date range covered
Data Quality
The backtester automatically validates downloaded data for:
- Gaps — Missing candles in the time series
- Duplicates — Repeated timestamps
- Ordering — Candles in correct chronological order
If issues are detected, you can use the Repair function to clean the dataset.
Tips
- Download more data than you need — Having 90+ days gives better statistical significance
- Use 1-minute data — You can always aggregate up to larger timeframes, but can't go the other way
- Re-download periodically — Keep your data fresh for strategies you're actively testing
- Check coverage — Make sure your data covers the date range you want to backtest
