Authentication
The Local Backtester requires a token to verify your Crodl lifetime membership. Each user gets one token that can be rotated at any time.
Getting Your Token
- Log in to your Crodl account at crodl.com
- Go to Settings → Backtester tab
- Your token will be generated automatically on first visit
- Click the copy button to copy it to your clipboard
Logging In
- Open the backtester at http://localhost:8888
- Paste your token into the login field
- Click Login
Your token is stored in your browser's local storage, so you won't need to enter it again unless you log out or clear your browser data.
Rotating Your Token
If you suspect your token has been compromised, you can rotate it:
- Go to Settings → Backtester tab on Crodl
- Click Rotate Token
- Confirm the rotation
Rotating immediately invalidates the old bootstrap token — browser logins and any new backtester connections need the new token. Already-linked backtester nodes authenticate with their own node credential and keep running until you explicitly unlink them from Settings → Backtester.
Logging Out
Click the Logout button in the backtester sidebar footer. This removes the token from your browser's local storage.
Troubleshooting
"Invalid token" error
- Make sure you copied the full token (64 characters)
- Try rotating your token on Crodl and using the new one
- Ensure your Crodl lifetime membership is active
Token not appearing in Settings
- The Backtester tab is visible to everyone, but the token is only issued to lifetime members — without a lifetime membership the tab shows an access notice instead
- If you recently upgraded, try refreshing the page
